Information
on Reuben A. Torrey
A good deal of the information on this website is derived from
the works of 19th- and early-20th-Century theologian, pastor and teacher Dr.
Reuben A. Torrey.
Torrey was the first superintendent of the Moody Bible Institute,
pastor of the Church of the Open Door in Los Angeles, California, and dean of
the Bible Institute of Los Angeles, which subsequently became Biola University.
He also served as the editor of The Fundamentals, a series
that explained the basics of the Christian faith.
Primarily, the information adapted from Torrey is from an unpublished
update I did on the 17th Edition of his classic work on systematic theology
entitled What the Bible Teaches. (c) 1898 (not 1998)
Although Torrey's work is an excellent reference, it uses the
King James Version exclusively, which is sometimes difficult to follow. The
"update" primarily consists of putting Torrey's "proposition"
before the supporting text and replacing the KJV quotes with NIV quotes.
